Greetings Caid! Once again it’s time for the exciting annual competition, Cast Iron Chef Lyondemere where, at this event, up to four teams will compete to see whose medieval meal reigns supreme and which head chef will win the esteemed title of “Cast Iron Chef 2018.”
Huzzah! We will not be charging a site fee for this year’s event. As per usual, for those folks who are not cooking, the day will be filled with activities, games, demos, and the kitchen tours, of course, where you can interact and ask questions of the cooks. We will again have the popular, “Eat with the judge’s raffle,” and so much more fun! The proceeds for this year’s raffle will be donated to charity, to help those affected by Cancer. More details will be released as we get closer to the event. Again, there will be a donation lunch served. More info on this will follow later.
Location
West Grove Park
5372 Cerulean Ave, Garden Grove, CA 92845

Off of the 405 and 22 Fwys
For you interested in competing, registration is now open (June 27) and will close either when all spots are full or July 27, whichever comes first. Here is our scenario:
It’s the early 1500’s on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. Here is where we find our heroine. A lovely lass with dark hair, a song in her heart, and a feisty tongue. Brave and courageous she is, with talents to match the best of men. Known for her fierceness and loyalty, from a young age, she was a force to be reckoned with. Although she was born the daughter of a nobleman, she strove to have her own way and build the life she wished. As a young lass, she could often be found learning how to fight with a sword from those who would teach her. As she grew, she could drink in the local tavern and gamble with the men, all while earning the respect of the town. By the time that she was past what would be considered “the marrying age,” she was a woman beyond compare. Still, wanting to please her family, she married, after finding a man who would accept her as she was. They were well suited and blessed with each other. While still keeping her manor home, she also runs a inn and gambling parlor. This is where we find her now. A large group of travelers have arrived seeking hospitality and she is happy to oblige. She will cook them a meal like they have never seen and then take them for all they have at the gambling tables after they have stuffed themselves. But wait, she has overheard a few of them whispering in the corner about plans against King James V. She then hears the voice of her beloved seanmathair, telling her from the great beyond, “Wee bairn, dinnae lit dese blengenges gie th’ best ay ye.” She was raised primarily by this strong woman, whose family had originated in Germany. This is where she got her tenacious spirit and her talent for cooking. With the memory of her grandmother in her mind, she vows that she will use all her talents to be sure that these scoundrels will not succeed in their devious plan.
Now will you take up the challenge and be her team of cooks?
Each team can have up to four members, with one named as Head Chef. There is a $20 entry fee per team which goes towards the cost of the food given to you to prepare. There will be a minimum of three dishes but no more than five dishes to be accepted for judging.
If you wish to compete for the title of Cast Iron Chef, please contact us at castironchef@lyondemere.org between June 27 and July 27, or until the team slots are all reserved (maximum of four teams).
DEMO: basic period frytors
This year, one of last years winners will be holding a hands on class/demo on basic period frytors. Yumm, come be a part of it. Thank you to THL Tomaso da Barbiano.
Additional Baubling Competition
We will be adding a new twist to the cooking competition this year. Each team will be able to add an additional person to their team to compete in a baubling game run by Lord Wulfric Forlong Falconhurst. At the end of the game, each team will be able to add a point to the team score with every bauble that they walk away with. Baubles will be provided.
