Lyondemere Anniversary – July 21, 2018

The Barony of Lyondemere invites one and all to celebrate its 40th Birthday!

Yes, we’re turning 40 and we’re having a party! Come enjoy the cool breezes as our guest in the barony by the sea. Everyone is invited! We’ll have food, games, prizes, and of course a TOURNAMENT!

Harken back to the days of Lyondemere of old with fun and games from “the olden days.” We’ll have a flat cap toss, poetry and posies, the ever-popular “Inferno Tourney,” and a guess-that-heraldry contest.

There will be lists in armored and rapier combat to determine the baronial champions. Specific format will be decided on the number of entrants. A Champion is the Baronial representative to the martial community; prospective champions should be prepared to answer questions, respond to challenges, and likewise represent their martial art to the Baron and Baroness. Lyondemere champions are given an honorary position on the Baronial retinue and their Lyondemere gate fees are covered for the length of their service. Please consider these responsibilities and privileges when making your decision to enter the list, especially if you are already the champion of another barony.

Lunch will be provided free of charge to everyone in attendance!

Lyondemere Anniversary wouldn’t be complete without our Basket Drawing fundraiser. There will be many beautiful items, most of them handmade by our talented artisans, on which to use your tickets. And since there is no registration fee and we’re providing lunch, we hope you’ll be generous with your ticket purchases! Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. We are grateful for your participation in our annual fundraiser.

Lyon Bard

The Lyon Bard position was created to encourage excellence in historical performance arts and in original compositions done in an historical manner. The competition is open to singers, poets, storytellers, actor-playwrights, and musicians. The primary responsibilities as Lyon Bard include: to take their place in Their Excellencies’ court and to perform at the required events, to encourage new bards and bardic activity in the barony as well as the kingdom, and/or to compose new material at the request of Their Excellencies (possibly in honor of or in praise of the Kingdom, Her Monarchs, The Barony, and other praiseworthy topics). The champion’s deeds must reflect honor, the talent and knowledge of which they have earned their position should be used for the greater glory of the Barony of Lyondemere and the encouragement of their art.

For this year’s competition, come prepared to perform one piece of your choice. Documentation is not required but may earn bonus points. Lyrics/words should be included wherever applicable. The piece may not exceed 10 minutes.

This honor is for a single person, not a group, though one may perform with backup musicians or singers. The holder of the title may not be their own successor. If the Lyon Bard is unable to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, then the position will go to the first runner-up, at the discretion of the Baronage.

Schedule

  • 8:00 AM – Site opens for set up
  • 9:00 AM – Lists and Gate open (there is no Gate fee, but EVERYONE must sign the waiver form)
  • 10:00 AM – Opening Court
  • 30 minutes after Court – Lists Close
  • 1:00 PM – Populace Lunch
  • Lyonbard Competition during lunch
  • After lunch and Lyonbard, Baroness Seraphina will start her progress to greet and welcome everyone. Presentations will be during her progress.
  • Between Rounds 2 & 3, we will have the Flat Cap Toss and the Inferno Tourney
  • Heraldry identification contest will be going all day
  • Basket Raffle drawing will be AFTER finals so all can participate (fundraiser)
  • “Poetry & Posies” will run all day (fundraiser)
  • Merchants will be at this event
  • Lyondemere’s 40-year display will be set up, so please be sure to stop by and have a look.
  • We will have Archery and Thrown Weapons!

Setup Up Raffle Tickets: We need all hands on deck during set up! Anyone who is not a member of the Barony who shows up to help with setup will receive 10 FREE raffle tickets! See the seneschal (Maestra Claudia) or the autocrat (Mistress Finella) for a sticker to receive tickets.
