General Arts

Arts & Sciences Workshops
  • Held the 3rd Monday of the month in Lawndale: House opens at 7 PM, workshops start at 7:30 PM
  • Upcoming meetings:
    • Aug 18 - Field trip to Master Gareth's Library. As discovered on a recent trip, Master Gareth has a wealth of literature on many aspects of 15 and 16th century life (including some rare, out-of-print, and European published books). Meet with us at 7:30 PM (at Calle Mayor School) and peruse this treasure trove and be inspired. Bring a camera and note-taking supplies, as I do not think his library allows the books to be checked out.
    • Sep 15 - Making Beeswax Trinkets - Mistress Aliskye is donating a good quantity of beeswax, and we will be melting it and pouring it into molds to make attractive tokens that can be used to wax thread. Waxed thread is much stronger, and tends not to tangle as easily, as unwaxed. These trinkets make delightful largess; in fact, the plan is to give many of them to Her Excellency for just that purpose!
    • Oct 20 - More String Better! (Part 3 of 4) We have string, what are we to do with it? We can make cords, or we can make cloth. Depending on schedules and availability, this session will cover various cord-making techniques, lucet, kumihino, finger-loop braiding, and maybe whipcord; or we will visit Amya and her many looms and learn about making cloth.
    • Nov 17 - Lyondemere Makes Award Scrolls - The Hotbed of Scribal activity is back, and this time we will take actual scroll assignments from the Scribe Armarius. All levels of skill are welcome: We will need people to help with layout, calligraphy, illumination, and painting. We will find a way to incorporate your skills into the scroll-making process! No supplies are necessary, but if you have them, please bring them.
