Arts & ArcherySaturday, February 18, 2012The Barony of Lyondemere is pleased to announce that it is once again time to choose their new champions for Archery and Arts. All are welcome to participate for the honor of representing Lyondemere as the Baronial Archery Champion as well as Baronial Arts & Sciences Champion. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Rancho Park in beautiful Cheviot Hills (Los Angeles). A Lyondemere championship is an honor and a privilege. Champions are entitled to the following:
As such we expect:
Beginning and hopeful archers are encouraged to attend. We should have archery authorizations throughout the morning. All who wish to authorize are encouraged to arrive early for the best opportunity. There will be loaner gear available on a first come, first served basis. For the artisans, the baronial championship competition will allow them to display their best work across artistic and scientific platforms. The Lyondemere Art and Science Champion is judged on three entries. All entries should be recent, completed in the past year, and are expected to be documented. Because the judging is to be 'blind' please do NOT put names, or any other identifying marks, on entries or documentation. Entrants will be given a number to identify each entry at List. The three entries must meet the following requirements: 1) Primary interest: Each contestant will submit one entry of their best work from their primary area of interest, such as: bardic, culinary, costuming, textile making, scribal, woodworking, metal-working. (This is a dry site, so any brewing entries MUST be non-alcoholic.) 2) Secondary example: Each contestant will also submit one entry in an area different from their primary, though it may be related to their primary interest. For example, if your primary interest is bardic, and you submit an original poem as your primary, you may submit a performance of a period work as your second entry. Likewise, if you submit a carving under a woodworking primary interest, your second entry could be a jewelry box. 3) Breadth of Knowledge: Each contestant will submit a third entry unrelated to the first two. It is suggested that among the three entries each artist include an example of fine art (judged on its aesthetic qualities, such as a painting or a costume), and practical art or science (judged on its usefulness and precise recreation, such as recreating medieval pigments or building a scale model). There will be no refrigeration or heating appliances available, and entries must be able to sit out for several hours during judging. Please note: If you are entering a musical composition piece it MUST be submitted to the Event Steward no later than Friday, February 10, 2012 via email or in person. Performances will be scheduled at List. Performers may have accompaniment, but only one competitor will be judged per performance. Because judges may have allergies, any entries meant to be consumed (cooking, brewing, etc.) or come in contact with skin (cosmetics, perfumes, lotions, etc.) MUST come with a COMPLETE ingredient list. There will also be a people's prize competition for those who wish to display their skill but not enter in the championship competition. There is no need for pavilions for there are many tables and natural shade provided by the park. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs as seating at the tables is limited.
