Pilgrimage to Lyondemere
Lyondemere Anniversary and Investiture
Saturday, July 18, 2009
The Barony of Lyondemere invites all good gentles and nobles to celebrate
with us the anniversary of our faire barony. We will be feteing our Baron
Thomas Bordeaux and Baroness Angelina Nicollette de Beaumont, and celebrating
the investiture of Lord Jon Thomme de Claydon and Lady Eva filia Edeneweyn
as our new baron and baroness.
Site
The event will be held at Houghton Park - 6301 Myrtle Avenue, Long
Beach, CA 90805 (Google
Maps Link). This is a lovely tree-studded park bordering Atlantic
Blvd between Artesia and Harding in Long Beach, north of the Bixby Knolls
neighborhood. Please contact the event steward
with your space requirements if you would like to reserve space directly
on the list field. The site has an excellent canopy of trees
on all sides of the list field so feel free to travel light in the hot
July weather - a rug and comfortable chairs should be all you will need.
The site opens at 8 AM for set up, and activities will begin at 9 AM.
We will be having a Patronage of the Arts Basket Raffle as a way
of both supporting the barony and encouraging the arts. One of the special
items that will be in the raffle is Lord Jon Thomme's excellent reproduction
of the Huldre bog woman's early Iron Age horn comb, which received a special
recognition by Her Majesty at Pentathlon. Donations of all kinds are welcome
and we would especially like to encourage donations of more hand-made
items, tools and materials, and the gift of your time and knowledge in
certificates for instruction or the promise of custom-made items.
Activities for the Day and Evening
There will be both Rapier Combat and Armored Combat (heavy
weapons), as well as a separate "Inferno" List hosted
by Sir Dante and Sir Gareth. For non-combatants we will have a Challenging
Quest based on The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer as
well as a selection of Children's Activities. We will cap off the
day with a sumptuous Feast starting at 6:30 PM with a special guest
from the West feast steward Lady Arganteilin filia Elffin (didn't she
move?), followed by Dancing in the hall to the dulcet tones
of Mistress Finella Harper and the Occasional Consort (live music at the
revel!).
The site will close at 10 PM to give our hardworking volunteer broom
squad time to restore order to the hall.
Volunteers
Volunteers are needed! You can help make this occasion even more successful
by signing up to help prepare the feast, donating to the raffle, serving
at feast, joining the broom squad or serving as constables. Please give
a little of your time.
